College Station, Texas – The Hilton Garden Inn on Lake Granbury was featured in an article written by Kathy Swindle, which ran on July 19, 2008 in the Hood County News.

Excerpts of the article are as follows:

“When Granbury officials talk about the city’s partnership with the new Hilton Garden Inn, they grin like the cat that swallowed the canary. … Both sides profited nicely in an arrangement that city officials said will leave the public the biggest winners. The Hilton Garden Inn on Pearl Street cost millions of dollars to build, but sits on a city-owned parcel of land that it leases for $10 a year. The city, in turn, collects property taxes, hotel occupancy tax, and sales tax from the guests who stay at the hotel and spend money at local shops and restaurants. … “It’s very visionary,” said city finance director Way McKethan. “I think the city of Granbury is leading where other cities will be going soon. … Many of the hotel’s 106 guest rooms and suites feature lake views. All have matted, framed photographs of Granbury landmarks. In the lobby is a large photo of the courthouse. Part of the deal on the land lease, city officials said, was that the hotel’s facade and decor fit nicely into the local landscape. … Between concessions sales, conventions and coveted lake views from comfortable hotel rooms, city officials are proud of the fruits of their labors. Said financial director McKethan:” It’s all creating a tremendous cash flow for the city.”
