College Station, Texas— Oldham Goodwin Group, LLC is pleased to announce its partnership with Academy Sports + Outdoors in the relocation of its College Station store at 2351 Earl Rudder Freeway to its new location at the intersection of Highway 6 & Northrop Grumman Road.
The new location will provide an improved shopping experience and updated look in its 72,000 square foot space. Academy Sports + Outdoors has been a Texas tradition for over 75 years and is known for its commitment to being the everyday low price leader as a premier sports, outdoor, and recreation lifestyle retailer.
Oldham Goodwin Group, LLC will develop a new Academy store, more than doubling the size of the existing market store, which will serve as a transformational element in the redevelopment of Providence Park at Research Valley, formerly known as The Science Park at Research Valley. Providence Park at Research Valley is a 54-acre site in the heart of Bryan-College Station, strategically located directly off of State Hwy. 6, the most important regional mobility and transportation corridor in the Brazos Valley. This redevelopment, located less than two miles from the center of Texas A&M University, will result in a significant increase in employment, property tax and sales tax for the City of College Station, CSISD, and Brazos County.
“Oldham Goodwin Group, LLC, in combination with Oldham Goodwin Capital, LLC, is extremely proud to partner with Academy Sports + Outdoors, one of the most identifiable and popular brands in Texas, as well as lead in the transformation of an underutilized existing asset in the heart of our community. We are humbled by this opportunity and take great pride and responsibility in redeveloping right here in our own backyard.” said Hunter Goodwin, President and COO of Oldham Goodwin Group, LLC.
College Station Mayor Nancy Berry pointed to the announcement as an ideal economic development scenario. “When you have a brand like Academy Sports + Outdoors find a level of success in College Station that requires additional growth, that’s inspiring,” Mayor Berry said. “But to know they will serve as an anchor for redevelopment at Providence Park is an even greater reward for our residents and our visitors.”
College Station Economic Development Director Natalie Ruiz added that the evolution of Providence Park will strengthen the entire area’s economy. “The retail development along Highway 6 at Providence Park will create excellent opportunities in what’s really been an underutilized site for many years,” Ruiz said. “Now, there’s a genuine opportunity to grow our retail commercial base.”
