Two Oldham Goodwin employees received high honors in the Marriott Select Brands Awards ceremony on Monday, June 6. Erik Wyatt was named SpringHill Suites General Manager of the Year and Nicole Winningham was named one of Courtyard by Marriott’s Sales Leaders of the Year.

Erik Wyatt: SpringHill Suites General Manager of the Year

Wyatt, who served as GM of the SpringHill Suites by Marriott Fort Worth Historic Stockyards until late 2021, was selected from a group of four SpringHill Suites Diamond General Manager of the Year winners as the brand’s top General Manager for 2021.

“Oldham Goodwin was fortunate to recruit Erik Wyatt as the General Manager for a new opening hotel in Fort Worth back in 2009,” said Oldham Goodwin Vice President of Hospitality Management Services Cole Baker. “Erik has been an integral part of OG’s growth since that time as a General Manager, Area General Manager, and now our corporate Director of Operations.”

The award recognizes the best of the best among SpringHill Suites General Managers, demonstrating achievement in operational excellence and hospitality leadership excellence.

“It’s been exciting to see Erik develop talented team members over the years who have not only grown within our ranks but have also ventured out into leadership roles in our industry across the country,” added Baker. “Erik is a great colleague and friend to all, and I could not be prouder of his efforts in achieving this prestigious award at Oldham Goodwin’s flagship hotel property.”

Recently promoted to Oldham Goodwin’s Director of Operations for Hospitality Management Services, Erik is responsible for supporting the Vice President of Operations in Oldham Goodwin’s Hotel Management Division in overseeing and assisting with the overall operations for the company’s hotel portfolio. Erik has over 22 years of hospitality experience in multiple brands, including Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton, and IHG properties.

Nicole Winningham: Courtyard by Marriott Sales Leader of the Year

Winningham, Area Director of Sales for The Courtyard New Braunfels River Village and the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott New Braunfels, was named one of Courtyard by Marriott’s Sales Leaders of the Year during the Marriott Select Brands Awards ceremony on Monday, June 6. Winningham is responsible for driving the continued growth and success of her sales team and directly accounted for over $1.5 million in revenue bookings in 2021.

“Nicole was instrumental in her hotels recovering from the pandemic, which was very hard on our industry,” said Baker. “She and her team were aggressive in pursuing and completing business opportunities that were atypical for her hotels but necessary as we dealt with lower demand in the months following the pandemic.”

Nicole’s efforts included developing creative accommodations for first responders and community leaders during the pandemic shutdowns. She also developed a strategy to help house members of The National Guard who were setting up an operation in New Braunfels to assist with Covid-19 response as well as traveling nurses staying in the area.

“Since our hotels are not extended stay hotels, we faced an uphill battle competing for the business of these groups,” said Oldham Goodwin Regional General Manager Daniel Pinkerton. “Nicole never wavered and offered the hotels with great confidence! We won the business. For the next 21 months, Nicole kept our hotels busy and full.”

Under Nicole’s leadership, The Courtyard New Braunfels set a property record in terms of both Average Daily Rate (ADR) and Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR) performance in 2021, marking its most successful year since the hotel’s opening in 2009.

“Nicole and her team exceeded 2019’s gross revenues by almost 10%,” Baker added. “That demonstrates a full recovery to pre-pandemic performance (and then some), which was a very rare achievement for our industry.”

Prior to her time with Oldham Goodwin, Nicole worked in downtown San Antonio as the Dual Director of Sales for the TownePlace Suites Downtown Riverwalk and the Home2Suites Riverwalk from 2016-2019. During that time both hotels excelled financially and actualized significant growth year over year. Nicole was promoted to Assistant Corporate Director of Sales and Support in early 2022. Her role will focus on revenue growth strategic initiatives for the Oldham Goodwin Hospitality portfolio.
